| Description: |
Both the
22-mile 400 State Trail and 4-mile Hillsboro Spur are part of Wisconsin’s
101-mile State Trail System. The 400 State Trail opened in 1993 and was
developed on an abandoned Chicago-Northwestern Railroad bed and was named for
the passenger train that traveled between Chicago and Minneapolis/St. Paul in
400 minutes. The trail is packed with limestone screenings and bridges with
planked floors, providing a hard, smooth surface. Both routes lead through
wetlands, sandstone bluffs, rolling croplands and pastures, and the trails
follow the Baraboo River valley. The 10K option will pass through Hillsboro,
noted for its Czech heritage and history. |
